President

Leo is a 1986 graduate of Youngstown State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He obtained his Chartered Financial Consultant Designation (ChFC) and his Chartered Life Underwriter Designation (CLU) from The American College in 1989. He is a member of the Society of Financial Services Professionals, the Professional Insurance Agents of America, and is Chairman of Grange Insurance Agents Advisory Board.

He began his career with Gem-Young in 1985 and became its president in 1993. Leo’s specific areas of experience are in Retirement and Estate planning.

Leo has been married to his wife Robin for over 30 years and they have three boys; Leo Jr., Lucas, and Stephen. He enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, riding his Harley Davidson Road Glide Special, and personal fitness training. Leo has served on various charitable and civic boards through the years. He is currently a member of the Finance Committee for the United Way of the Mahoning Valley.

Operations Manager

Diana holds the Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist (CLCS) designation. She has an Associates Degree in business from Phoenix University and is currently working towards her Bachelors Degree.  She is also experienced in the business environment through the ownership of a campground in Trumbull County.  “Ethics are very important to me”, says Diana.  “Customers trust us to find an insurance solution that is the best choice for them.  I always put the needs of my clients first.”

She moved to the Youngstown area 6 years ago after previously living in Rockford, Illinois.  Diana resides in Hubbard, OH with her husband John.  She has 2 grown children, Heather and Jonathan, whom reside in Rockford, Illinois.  She enjoys walking outdoors with her husband, canoeing and camping.

A Beaver Local High School graduate, Steve founded the Tri-Ohio Insurance Agency in East Liverpool in 1984 and has been writing auto, homeowners and life insurance since then. When Tri-Ohio became a Gem-Young agency in 2004, Steve brought with him many years of experience in the insurance industry as well as the experience of owning a business.

Steve has been married to his wife Connie for over 30 years. He is actively involved in a non profit organization in Salem that is very involved in charitable functions and scholarships for students. They also take an interest in the local veterans and their needs. Steve has been an officer/trustee since 2002. He is also involved in the United Way.

Denny brings over 8 years of expertise in the insurance industry. He worked and managed a Nationwide multi-line agency.  He focuses on all insurance lines of business.

Denny is a lifelong Boardman resident and graduated from Boardman High School in 1999 and also attended YSU for business administration.  He loves boating, bowling, traveling, camping in his motorhome, collecting and restoring antique and classic cars and spending time with his dog, Grace.

He is an active member of the Mahoning Valley Olde Car Club and is chairmen of their annual car show “Cars in the Park”.  He is also involved with the Mahoning Valley Young Professionals, Valley Leadership Group, Window World Bowling League and the Canfield Community Band.

A graduate of Kennedy Christian High School and John Carroll University, Sam has held various management positions for national companies before becoming a part of the Gem-Young family. Sam focuses on Life Insurance and Long Term Care sales for Gem-Young.  “My mission is to guide families and seniors with honesty and integrity in making financial decisions that will protect their assets and secure their futures”, states Sam. “This will be done by focusing on the needs of the clients and making sure that ALL solutions are in their BEST interest.”

Sam is a past holder of the CFP (Certified Financial Planner) designation.  He is actively involved with the Knights of Columbus, Valley Leadership Group, and St Paul the Apostle Church, where he serves in a number of functions.

Sam is married to his wife Marie and has 3 adult children. He enjoys golfing, playing football and baseball and attending pro and high school football games. He’s passionate about working out and taking care of himself. He also enjoys spending time with family, friends and co-workers.

Leo joined Gem Young in 2016. He is the third generation of the Daprile family to work at the agency.

Leo graduated from Canfield High School in 2010. At Canfield, he was part of the wrestling team, marching band, and various other student groups. He graduated from Youngstown State University with a degree in industrial Engineering.

At YSU, he was president of Alpha Phi Delta fraternity and a member of the YSU Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE). Prior to joining the agency, Leo spent two years in an engineering position.

His interests include Cleveland sports, cars, motorcycles, movies (Star Wars), and he is an avid skier.

Pat joined Gem Young in 2017, he has been in the insurance industry since 2014. Pat attended high school in East Palestine and he is a graduate of Kent State University,

An avid aviation fan, Pat has his pilot’s license and enjoys fly-ins and airshows whenever possible. He also golfs on occasion and enjoys shooting sporting clays. He has a dog, Dino, and a cat, Rocky.

Pat is a member of the International Association of Insurance Professionals (IAIP), the Aircraft Owner’s and Pilot’s Association (AOPA) and the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA).

Pat will be focusing on personal insurance and high-value homeowners and related coverages.

Bonnie is a 1974 graduate of Grove City College where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree. She has been in the insurance business since 1979 and has been a licensed agent since 1980. Her interest in insurance began with her father owning an insurance agency and teaching her that honesty in the business is number one. “Working for Gem-Young reiterates what my father has taught me throughout the years. Assisting clients during traumatic times and even the best of times is how I apply my knowledge and compassion to the industry.”

Bonnie is the Treasurer of the North Jackson Business Association, Co-Chairman of Trustees of Trinity United Methodist Church and a member of the North Boardman Block Watch. She’s active in animal rescues and has two adult children, Julie and William.

Ruth is a Bowling Green State University graduate and has been with the agency since 1993. She holds a Series 6 license as well as a Life & Health license for Gem-Young. Ruth is responsible for the administrative and service aspects of the financial services division.

Ruth lives in Youngstown and has been married 26 years to her husband, Tim. They have two sons, Eric and Matthew and two cats, Colby and Chanel. Ruth attends Western Reserve United Methodist in Canfield, Ohio where she is on the worship committee and is in charge of Communion. Ruth loves to read and is in charge of her book reading club, Circle of Friends. She also enjoys shopping, fitness walking, scrap booking and cake decorating.

Connie has many years experience in the insurance industry and in the past has held the CPIW (Certified Professional Insurance Woman) and CISR (Certified Insurance Service Representative) designations as well as completing the IIA (Insurance Institute of America) program.

Connie’s career spans 30+ years of serving insurance clients in the Mahoning Valley.

A graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and active member of St Charles church, when she isn’t making her famous pizza, she enjoys fishing and cooking.

Connie and her husband have two boys and enjoy camping, fishing and going to car shows.

Retired - Former Vice President

Terry is a 1970 graduate of Ursuline High School and attended Youngstown State University. A lifelong area resident, he has been involved with Gem-Young since 1972 serving as a personal lines producer and commercial lines specialist, in addition to overseeing agency operations. In 1990, Terry received his Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation and is licensed in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Indiana to sell Life, Health, and Property/Casualty products.

Currently the Vice President of the Boardman (OH) chapter of Rotary Club, a 4th degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, Msgr. Lettau Assembly, and a sitting board member of Angels for Animals, Terry has a focused commitment and dedication to the Mahoning Valley.

Terry recently remarried and resides in Canfield with his wife, Barbara. Combined, they have five adult children, two grandchildren, two dogs, and 2 cats. When not spending time with his family, Terry enjoys riding his motorcycle, golfing, and facilitating the adoption and care of stray animals.

Terry retired from Gem Young Jan 1, 2017, after 45 years with the agency.
